Medical Insurance
All students receive insurance coverage for the duration of the program through GeoBlue.
Should a student become ill while abroad, they should see a healthcare provider. Students will need to pay out-of-pocket for any medical bills or visits, but can be reimbursed by the insurance company if the provider fills out the Insurance Claim Form provided by GeoBlue, and if the student keeps detailed documentation of medical treatment received (including signed prescriptions, receipts from pharmacies, clinics, etc.) to send to the insurance company with the claim. Without documentation, the insurance company cannot provide reimbursement. Instructors and onsite coordinators are trained to assist students with the insurance claim form when needed.
In addition to medical coverage, GeoBlue provides students with political and security evacuation coverage.
Some families may want to acquire additional medical coverage (e.g., via the guardian's insurance), for any emergency that would require extensive care and for illnesses that may have limited coverage, including mental and nervous disorders. Students will want to carry an identification card or other documentation from their insurance company that would prove coverage.
Students are only insured by GeoBlue for the duration of the program.
To file a claim, students and guardians can visit GeoBlue's website. For more information about student health and safety abroad, students and guardians should consult the IUHPFL Student Handbook.
