Why did you decide to do IUHPFL? For starters I've never been to Europe before, so I thought this was a nice way of doing that. But beyond that, I chose IUHPFL because I want to know how other people around the world live. We spend so much of our lives surrounded by people who live under the same circumstances we do that it becomes difficult to imagine how people in other places may be going about their lives. That said, the most attractive part about IUHPFL for me was the fact that I would be able to live with a host family and fully assimilate myself into a different lifestyle and culture rather than have to bunk with Americans.
What are you most excited about? I'm definitely most excited about meeting my host family. I really just want a change of pace in my life, and I think living with a whole new family in a foreign country is a great way of doing that. The unpredictability of how it will go is very exciting for me, and I look forward to it.
What are you most nervous for? What I'm most nervous about is being left to navigate the town with other students. Obviously we'll be in groups, but they will probably be just as confused as I will be and the embarrassment of getting lost and having to call for help isn't very appealing to me.
What is something interesting or unique about you? I'm left handed and speak Spanish as well. I've traveled to Latin America 2 times, the first time to Ecuador and the second time to Colombia.
What is one goal you have for yourself this summer? The biggest goal I have for this summer is to boost my confidence. I honestly feel like if I can do this, then I can do anything in life I set my mind to.
What’s your favorite French word or saying and why? My favorite French word is escargot. I'm not very sure why, but my French 1 teacher was obsessed with them and I think he may have passed that onto me.
