Why did you decide to do IUHPFL?
When I first learned about this opportunity from my teacher and explored the details of the program, I was genuinely amazed. I had no idea such opportunities existed, and I eagerly submitted my application. Growing up in Cameroon and later moving to the United States, I haven't had the chance to travel much. Through IUHPFL, I will not only immerse myself in a language I have always been passionate about, but I will also spend an entire month learning about French culture while living with a host family, which I think is truly awesome!
What are you most excited about?
As a food enthusiast and extrovert, I’m excited about experiencing the local cuisine and making new friends. The idea of living in and exploring a completely new environment is also particularly thrilling. I’m ready to embrace all the challenges that come with this adventure.
What are you most nervous for?
I believe that adapting to the new surroundings will be challenging at first, especially when it comes to following the rules of the host family. While I feel a bit nervous about this, I’m a quick learner, so I think I’ll be just fine.
What is something interesting or unique about you?
I play guitar and speak “ein bisschen Deutsch”. I love dancing too so I’m excited about learning the Breton dance.
What is one goal you have for yourself this summer?
I’m going to bring home as many souvenirs, take as many pictures, and create core memories as much as I can. I have a lot of relatives that helped me make this program possible, and the least I can do is to tell as much as I can about my experience, so I really need to document everything I will do while I’m abroad.
What do you plan/hope to do after high school?
I plan to major in biomedical engineering. I plan to use my education and research experience to address the healthcare crisis in Cameroon, collaborating with local providers and international organizations to implement sustainable solutions.
What’s your favorite French word or saying and why?
My favorite French saying is "Je ne sais pas." When someone asks what it means, I simply reply, "I don't know." Their reaction is often just an "oh," and I can’t help but chuckle at how brilliant I am.
