Registration and Application

Step 1: Registration for the Program

Prior to registering, make sure you understand the eligibility requirements, the IUHPFL Honor Code, and what to expect from the program. Students can register for the program from September 15th to November 15th. As you fill out the registration, make sure you provide separate email addresses for yourself and at least one parent/guardian. These email addresses will be used to communicate important program information to you and your family throughout the IUHPFL program cycle.

Step 2: Invitation to Apply

After registering, you will receive an "Invitation to Apply" via email. This message will include a link to your Student Portal where all the application materials are housed. The only way to access this portal is through the link in your email, so make sure you save or mark it.

Step 3: Application

Once you follow the link you receive in your email to your Student Portal, you will have access to all components of the application. All components are due by December 1st, but you will want to make sure you start well ahead of time, as you will need to complete the writing sample with your language teacher and have them submit it. You will also need to give your appraisers enough time to complete their portions of the application. Below, find a description of each of the application components.

Component	Description
Personal Application (Student Essay Questions)	This part of the application requires you to answer free response questions thoughtfully and thoroughly.
Parental Assessment	One parent or guardian must complete this form, which gives us insight into the applicant's readiness for the challenges of an immersive program.
Language Teacher Appraisal	This appraisal is filled out by your current language teacher.
Other Teacher Appraisal	You will choose any teacher you have had (who is not your current or former language teacher) to complete this appraisal.
Official School Transcript	You may submit your official transcript electonically via a transcript request program such as Parchment or through a school administrator. You will select the option you would like to use in the Student Portal.
Writing Sample	When you register for IUHPFL, your world language teacher will be notified and will receive the materials for completing the writing sample via email. You must complete this writing exercise in the target language under the supervision of your language teacher. You may not use dictionaries or devices during the test. The exercise takes about 45 minutes to complete. Your teacher will then submit the writing sample via email to the IUHPFL office by the December deadline.

Before sending any of the appraisal requests in the Student Portal, make sure to talk to your appraisers to verify that they are willing to complete the appraisals for you.

Step 4: Possible Interview

IUHPFL invites some but not all applicants to interview. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and clarify your expectations of the program. These interviews take place over Zoom, and we will reach out in December or January to schedule one with you if necessary.

Step 5: Notification of Acceptance Status

We will review your application, taking into consideration your readiness, self-discipline, and adaptability. You will be notified of your acceptance status around the third week of January. We will let you know next steps at that point.
