Almería

A core part of the IUHPFL experience is staying with a host family. As at all sites, students from team Almería formed connections with host parents, siblings, and even pets!

On weekends and after school each day, students spent time with their host families, sometimes meeting up with other students and their host families for gatherings and activities. Students got to experience Almería with their host families: going to movies and concerts, bowling, having dinner at the local mall, seeing nearby sites, and taking much needed breaks from the heat by swimming and hanging out on the beach. Five host families and their students got together to complete a hike in Los Canales de Padules.

The site had a photo-sharing app they used, and many families contributed numerous pictures of smiling students getting a taste of Almería with their parents and siblings. Host families did more than just show students the city. They offered support, cooking meals for them and including them in family time at home.

Staying with families allowed students to better learn the language and be part of the host society. Even though the students have returned home, they have formed bonds that will continue on. ¡Muchisimas gracias a todas las familias anfitrionas!
