Summer 2025 Orientation will be held on Sunday, April 27th for all programs.
Student-Guardian Orientation is held at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) on the Indiana University campus, Bloomington, from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Students and guardians should arrive by 9:30 am for check-in. See the full schedule for details. Please review parking information and directions, as Indiana University's campus is often quite busy and parking opportunities limited.
2025 Student-Guardian Orientation Schedule
All accepted students plus one guardian must attend their assigned Student-Guardian Orientation. Due to limited seating in Whittenberger Auditorium, only one or two guardians can accompany each student during the 10:00 am and 3:15 pm presentations. Other family members who do not attend these sessions are welcome to explore the IMU or university campus while these sessions are in progress. Each student should bring no more than 2 people, and they must either be a parent, guardian or other adult family member. No young children should attend.
STUDENTS must bring a SACK LUNCH. We recommend that all students bring a backpack or tote for their course packets, t-shirts, and additional materials.
While students enjoy their sack lunches with their teammates and instructors, PARENTS and GUARDIANS will have 90 minutes for lunch at their choice of venue, including restaurants within the Indiana Memorial Union or around Bloomington.
Orientation is mandatory. It is an important and exciting step in the IUHPFL experience and helps to ensure each student’s success in the program. It is the principal opportunity prior to departure for students to bond with their teammates and instructors and for parents and guardians to get answers to their many important questions. Presentations throughout the day provide vital program information, including details specific to each program site and host culture. Orientation is also a valuable opportunity to meet and talk with program alumni and their parents. Students spend time with their teammates and instructors and engage in a variety of fun activities that are designed to help them prepare for their IUHPFL journey, while parents and guardians address topics related to insurance, safety, banking, communication with home, and more.
For those traveling from longer distances, IUHPFL has reserved a small block of rooms at the Indiana Memorial Union Biddle Hotel for the night before Orientation (Saturday, April 26th). To reserve one of IUHPFL's rooms, use the group code IUHFLP25 [yes, the letters are flipped]. These rooms are first-come, first-served and must be reserved by 3/26 (otherwise they will be released).
