We were a bit nervous because students had not been to Chile before, but it was great. We went to meet Levi at the end of the program. We found the people to be so friendly and helpful. His family was fantastic. It seems like they were made to be Levi's parents! While Levi was a bit disappointed his family did not have young children like he has at home, he did have a brother his age, and they hit it off very well (Levi is a twin so it was a lot like home). We are still in contact with the family over social media.
The hardest part was wondering what he was doing each day since we only talked once and from that point didn't hear anything from him…then at the end of the summer I found Levi's emails in my spam!!! But anyway, he had a great time. He has gained proficiency in Spanish which I don't think can be gained in a classroom. He has become more aware and conscientious of cultural differences.
