We are very sad to announce that the decision has been made to cancel all 2020 IUHPFL programs.
This decision was not an easy one to make and it involved input from various IU administrative personnel. This determination was based on a variety of factors, including the CDC Level-3 Warning for all travel to Europe, the World Health Organization declaration of a global pandemic, and the fact that health experts warn that the pandemic will get worse before it gets better. We would also note the fact that all University events involving big groups (such as our Student Orientations in April) are to be cancelled or postponed, which would make it difficult to continue preparing for this summer.
As a program for high school students, we must take extra precaution to protect the health and safety of our participants, as well as that of our staff members and host families.
All Program Fees and Airfare Fees that have been made to IUHPFL and Travel Leaders will be reimbursed, including the $500 “non-refundable” deposit for Program Fees.
It is our hope that this year’s sophomore and junior applicants will consider participating in our 2021 programs. Although we will ask for updated application materials, their acceptance into the program would be automatically granted, as long as there are no serious concerns at that time, academic or otherwise. We realize that those few students who are currently seniors will not be able to participate in IUHPFL and we hope to offer them some reassurance that many wonderful study abroad opportunities await them in college.
Thank you for all your support during the fall application process, and we look forward to being in touch with you when we launch our programs for 2021.
*Please note, this announcement only applies to IUHPFL -- no other Indiana University summer study abroad programs have been cancelled at this time.
